Artificial intelligence is transforming higher education teaching – but how exactly? 

The online workshop series: "AI in teaching & learning: International perspectives and best practices" brings together teaching staff, teaching support staff, and didactic experts from various European universities and disciplines to address this issue. The workshops will be 90-minute online sessions with colleagues from all the Arqus Universities to provide insights into the use of concrete AI applications in their teaching, share findings, good practices, and invite participants to exchange experiences. The workshops aim to inspire and provide participants with practical information for integrating AI in teaching, learning, and assessment. 

In this first workshop our guests will be: 

• ChatLEO - Transforming Legal Studies through AI-Assisted |  Erik Winter and Prof. Dr. Gregor Roth | Law faculty at Leipzig University 
• How can AI bridge the gap between traditional teaching and digital learning? In this talk, Erik Winter presents ChatLEO, an AI assistant developed at the University of Leipzig to support students in law and beyond. By linking questions to precise lecture segments and materials, ChatLEO demonstrates how intelligent systems can make learning more accessible, efficient, and interdisciplinary.
• Personal AI Twins in Legal Education: Lessons in AI Literacy, Documentation and Creative Thinking | PhD Jurcys Paulius & Goda Strikaitė-Latušinskaja | Law faculty at University of Vilnius
• This presentation reports on a pioneering experiment in which two lecturers integrated AI “knowledge twins”—conversational doubles trained on their own materials—into a data protection law course. Rather than replacing instructors, the twins enhanced learning through on-demand expertise, reduced student anxiety, and fostered critical, creative engagement. The results show how thoughtful AI augmentation can advance human-centered, ethically aware education.
• GenAI for Textual Revision in French as a Second Language | PhD Student Holmes Taegan | Language faculty at University of Lyon 1
• While GenAI has been applied to many different areas of second/foreign language teaching and learning, this presentation focuses specifically on ChatGPT and its application for textual revision in the context of French as a Second Language at the undergraduate level. We explore desired learning outcomes, use cases and finally, some critical ethical considerations. The aim of this presentation is to underline the affordances as well as the limitations of using GenAI during the revision process.

The first five "AI in Teaching and Learning" sessions will take place from 14:00 to 15:30 CET on the following dates: 28 November 2025, 12 December 2025, 19 December 2025, 15 January 2026 and 21 January 2026.
